Can you get behind on a hobby?

I've been feeling so out-of-sorts lately with the hot weather, long days, outside work, etc. and I've been fretting about getting behind in my sewing.  Then a read a post from Greta about how she was getting stressed out from getting behind on her sewing and a light bulb went off in my head.  This is a HOBBY!  It's supposed to be FUN!  Can you even "get behind" in a hobby??  Jeez!

In three days I only managed to sew one column
I'm trying to sew together the hexagon quilt top but I have to keep it laid out or I'd be sewing everything the wrong way.  It's been laying out on the living room floor for three days and we are all just walking on it.

The last straw was Saturday when we came back from our afternoon walk on the canal and I found Jada snoring peacefully on it while still dripping wet.  I admit defeat.  My Honey is coming for a long weekend and I'm taking a break from it until I can devote a whole day and just get it done.  The house must be at least semi-clean ... there must be some food in the fridge ... I must be reasonably well rested ... I must not fret that I don't have a quilt top sewn together.
Ok ...  I actually snapped a picture before I shooed her off .... but it was too late at that point anyways

Uh oh ....  Look what came in the mail today ....

I better get a bathing suit soon or I'll be draping fabric around myself on the beach!

  2. I totally understand this... I'm in the process of relocating/moving, plus a 3 week vacation mixed in...my poor hobby will be abandoned for awhile.

I hate when you love your hobby, yet you feel compelled that you MUST finish something (for the blog?) You're right - it's supposed to be fun, not an obligation! I think blogging has a big part to do with that.

Your poor quilt - at least the dog loves it! ;-) I think it's beautiful!!!

  5. Awww... don't get stressed! You are right, this is supposed to be fun LOL! And besides, if you were all caught up we wouldn't have the pleasure of seeing the funny picture of your girl snoring on your blocks.

Lucky you getting some Castle Peeps today! How are you going to use it??

    Jennifer :)

  6. Oh yah, a hobby! What's Jada's hobby? Maybe you could make her a castle to sleep in! LOL Seriously, that's a smart way to sew hexigons.

  8. Oh my your Jada reminds me of my dog Riley, he follows me around whenever I have a quilt just waiting for me to put it down so he can lay on it, finished or in pieces.... I feel the same way about all the yard work, it's a little overwhelming this time of year but looks so nice when finished. I always work on a sewing or knitting project during the day, but no pressure to get it finished this time of year. I tell myself it's better than the alternative ~ not having anything to do!

  9. The photo of Jada on your quilt top is hysterical. Because that's exactly what dogs do. Why? WHY?

I find it easier to set a mini goal for the week: like to sew for 30 minutes or an hour. That way, even if I don't complete anything, I've still done some sort of sewing.

  12. Oh my goodness, that photo of Jada is priceless. What a conflict of emotion - ring her dripping wet neck.....or peel myself off the floor after laughing my head off?

Your so right about the hobby thing. Sometimes I get caught up in the "need" to just get it finished so I can get it off my mental "to-do" list. Your hexies are lookin' good, enjoy your weekend.

  14. Keep it fun, the quilt top will still be there UNFINISHED when you are ready. The dog is great. I once moved a fan and everything flew off my design wall.
